Definitely one of the top 5 best albums ever made is Robin Thicke's first album, Beautiful World.
Pros: It's funky and abstract, and each song has its own sound.
Cons: No cons here. I still have this cd on repeat after 5 years.
If you wonder why I call Robin Thicke a musical genius, listen to this album. I've had this CD since it came out in 2003, and I'm still playing it like it's new. This was Thicke. Not Robin Thicke the soul superstar we know today, but Thicke the budding songwriter with his own ideals of how music should be heard and lyrics should be felt. The lyrics are so abstract and the music to accompany the songs give the tracks a vibe and a pulse that is ingenius. Eventhough this album didn't garner complete national attenion, it is definitely worth listening to because it makes you think and also feel. This is the Robin Thicke music that I crave.
My 3 Favorite Tracks Are...
Track 3: "Suga Mama" - The tale alone commands attention, but when he ventures into a bluesy vamp that digs into deep soul and almost channels the spirit of Curtis Mayfield, you're convinced that Thicke is the truth.
Track 7: "I'm A Be Alright" - Another soulful song that's encouraging and upbeat...eventhough it seems a little antagonistic.
Track 13: "Lazy Bones" - This track lyrically makes you listen to figure out the meaning, and then shift in heavy guitar rifts definitely thrust you into the song. This man is a fucking genius.
5 Opinions:
let me tell you something. This is definitely one of the best albums i've ever listened to. Such talent. Musically, it had something for EVERYONE. A truly brilliant CD...and i'm totally fine with the lack of commercial acclaim because it's always been something I can keep for myself and not have every reject soul wannabe jumping on the bandwagon.
With that said, his subsequent efforts have been lackluster in comparison to this disc. Fancy production and collabos aside...the same passion isn't there. He TRIES and they want soooo badly to make him this new, amazing Great White Blue Eyed soul savior, but it will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER happen.
I wish he would return to doing what made us love him initially.
I AGREE COMPLETELY. This is why my standards for him are so high, and everyone wonders why I'm not feeling his new shit. Because we know he's better than that.
yo. so you just made me download lazy bones so i could see for myself. i have his first album somewhere but i rarely ever listened to it, but my music taste is different now than i was so. i could use another listen.
and how do i post a review for you to post? i've never done blogspot before so i'm iz all kinds of confused.
Stupid Things is my favorite track. It will forever speak to my heart. Lol.
*sigh*
